Glamour and Grief
The World and Jewels of Princesses Paley
A world of royalty and glamour awaited Olga Valerianovna Karnovich when she married Grand Duke Paul Alexandrovich of Russia in 1902 and became Princess Paley. Her jewels were made by the finest jewellers in the world, including Cartier, Fabergé and Bolin to name but a few. But grief was just around the corner when her husband and son were killed. Olga fled Russia with her daughters, Princess Irina Pavlovna Paley (1903-1990) and Princess Natalia Pavlovna Paley (1905-1981) who both went on to leave their own mark on history. This talk will uncover the fascinating lives and jewellery collections of these remarkable ladies.

Hearts and Bows – The Symbols of Romance
Unravelling the symbols of love is the key to this presentation. Hearts have always been associated with the symbol of devotion, be it a simple flaming heart or more symbolic as with the Darnley Jewel of 1571-2. Conversely the bow gets rather overlooked as a romantic jewel. This talk will look at spectacular pieces of heart and bow jewels from ancient treasures to Royal masterpieces, unlocking the passion within the jewels.
