South American Fever
South American gemstones are amongst the finest in the world. From exquisite Colombian Emeralds to the rich colours of Topaz, Amethysts, Citrines and Aquamarines, the abundance of gemstones is unbelievable. Since the C16th South America has been a valuable source of gemstones and legends. In 1541, Francisco Gonzalez wrote a series of testimonies describing a hidden city with a king covered in fine gold dust. This place was known as El Dorado! Join us at The Gallery to discover more about this fascinating land and all the gemstones it produces.

Egyptian Splendour – The Rise of Tutankhamun
To celebrate the centenary of the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb this talk will look at the findings from Howard Carter’s excavation in 1922, as well as delving into the history of all things Egyptian – did you know that the Victorian’s had “mummy-unwrapping” parties?!! We will discover how Hathor, the goddess of love and beauty was associated with the abundance of jewels and gemstones that came out of ancient Egypt and how popular symbolic motifs were incorporated into the jewels of this fabulous land.
